Regionals
The rain in Blaine falls mainly on the men's fields, which meant good
conditions for Viva! at Northwest Regionals, aka Nationals Part 1. We
had a good time with one last go round with Prime and Riot and seeing
new faces on the Linnfield team. Homebrood and Hussy were our big games
of the day, and in both cases we ended up a few points short, but with
new drive. Next year. Eat some Viva! pie (and read Anne's final WOTS report).
Sectionals
Four games, one day, the most important victory of the season -- Viva!
headed up to Sectionals in Burlington, WA to both capture the title of
second team in Seattle and earn our bid to Regionals. A game with Riot
fired us up to take Moxie all the way in the next round and get the
victory. We also enjoyed a great game with BC's second team, Hussy.
Ready to crack the quarters at Regionals. Read Anne's Ode to Viva here.
Kleinman
This tournament took place the first weekend in August, so our numbers were quite low;
we also lost some valuable team members to injury. We played with heart and went up big on
Moxie in the last game on Saturday, only to run out of gas and lose by a couple. Then we
camped and partied, played beer friz (not to be confused with "The Middlebury game"), learned
that Dara is a sorority girl, and danced under the stars. Anne also blessed us with the
first Women On The Scene report at the end of this tournament.
Solstice
Everyone on the Viva! megaroster for Eugene had something to contribute.
After putting some checks in the win category on Saturday, Viva! was
called up to play with the elite big girls on Sunday. Games with ACME
and Schwa showed our potential to play with Nationals qualifying teams.
Flower Bowl
The first official Viva! tournament, complete with jerseys meeting us at
the hotel room. We played in the women's bracket, rolling through
Saturday, besides a sleeper first round with Bellingham. Sunday saw a
tight game with Brushfire where Viva! realized the grit it takes to
finish a close one. Playing Reef in semis, we had strokes of genius and
strokes of confusion defending a spread offense. Reef beat Bellingham
in the finals.
